People's Daily: Xi 'an to build 'world design capital'
2023-05-06
On May 6, the third matchmaking meeting of "Xi 'an Design Week" urban renewal theme curatorial exhibition was held in Xi 'an Old Steel Mill Design Creative Industry Park. More than 10 core curators exchanged discussions on urban renewal policy and trend interpretation, planning and design, project practice, urban renewal and urban life, cultural creativity and other perspectives. This is one of the four themes of the first Xi 'an Design Week in 2023.
In March 2022, Shaanxi Zhengfa (2022) No. 7 "Xi 'an Metropolitan Area Development Plan" proposed: "Support Xi 'an to declare the design capital, and vigorously promote industrial design and design industrialization."
In July 2022, eight departments, including the Publicity Department of Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Shaanxi Province, jointly issued the Action Plan of Shaanxi Province to Implement the Implementation Plan for Promoting Industrial Culture Development (2021-2025), which proposed: "actively support Xi 'an to strive to build Xi 'an Industrial Design City of China and the World Design Capital."
This year, the first Xi 'an Design Week activity came into being. As an innovative key exhibition project of Xi 'an, this event will become an important exploration of Xi 'an's construction of "World Design Capital".
"International Business card" full of "earning power"
China is the country with the most "World Design Capital" cities. This title is an internationally recognized symbol of the city's creative and innovative development, and an "international business card", which is of great significance for attracting investment, enhancing international influence, and promoting the rapid growth of creative industries.
The World Design Capital is one of the most attractive projects of the Creative Cities Network established by UNESCO in 2004 to promote and maintain cultural diversity and promote exchanges and cooperation among member states. Currently, there are 40 "World Design Capitals" in 31 countries. China is the country with the most "World Design Capital" cities, with Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wuhan among them.
The urban practice of "World Design Capital" - Berlin, Shenzhen
Berlin was awarded the title of World Design Capital by UNESCO in 2006, becoming the first European city to join the United Nations Global Creative Cities Network. The construction of Berlin's "World Design Capital" aims to develop an international cultural capital, a shopping and fashion capital, and a party capital, based on three interwoven concepts.
An important manifestation of the development of Berlin as an international cultural capital is the shaping of the inner city space, emphasizing the shaping of public space by art, emphasizing the design of urban interior garden, road and street art, so that cultural creativity is no longer limited to professional design, but applied to urban space and landscape construction, so that creative design can truly integrate into people's life. While transforming the appearance of the city, it creates a good atmosphere of cultural innovation for creative people and ordinary residents.
